We continue the conversation about Club Time in this cast by getting into more specifics.

Learning how to enjoy the uniqueness of each of your kids and the kinds of Club Time they want is priceless. If you can’t figure out how to talk to your three year old or teenager we cover that too. Not surprisingly you can use similar techniques for both age groups!

You’ll probably want to listen to the first Club Time cast before starting this one.

Spending time as a whole family is important but it’s not the best way to build into each kid. Which is where the idea of “Club Time” comes in.

Club Time is about consistent one on one experiences with you and each child…doing something they want to do. Think of it as Date Night but with one of your kids…except the chances of having to watch a chick flick are lower…and you probably won’t have to shave.

We continue the conversation about “Date Night” in this cast and introduce the idea of “War Council”.

An issue for all of us is that there can be a lot going on with our kids and it becomes easy for them to become the main topics for Date Night. While figuring out how to make sure your kid keeps his diaper on all night is a very high priority (a manageable amount of laundry is desirable) that topic doesn’t belong in Date Night.

“War Council” (yes…it is an aggressive name) is time that the two of you can take to walk through those issues and figure out together how to handle them.

This cast talks about the idea of setting up a consistent and frequent “Date Night” for your wife and you to spend time being a romantic couple. It can be very easy to fall into a strictly “team” relationship since what can be most pressing is taking care of the kids. Date Night helps to avoid that.

Carving out time for dates is a little bit more complicated with kids in the picture but as Chuck talks about…if he can figure out how to do it…ANYONE can do it…and it is completely worth the time and effort!

Why should a guy take the time to become a better father and husband? What are the things he should do? We dig into those kind of questions and more by drawing from Chuck’s 20 plus years of experience in leading fathers groups.

The Fathers Podcast is all about basic fathering ideas that we can take and adapt to our particular family situation. There is no such thing as a perfect father but making tiny adjustments in the ways we interact with our families can have a huge impact in the long run.
