How does gratitude relate to being a better father? Well, as you may already know based on experience, what we say isn’t absorbed by our family nearly as much as what we do. So by learning how to have an attitude of gratefulness our thoughts will naturally flow into our actions…which are the cues our family react to the most.

We finish out the conversation on comings and going by talking about the daily rhythms we can have with our kids. Positive routines have a way of deepening relationships so learning how to take the time to invest in your kids every day is very advantageous.

In this cast we talk about how our relationship with our wife can be positively affected if we develop the habit of waking up and going to bed together.

Getting on the same schedule can be a challenge (especially if you have completely different habits) but it will open up more quality time and strengthen the marriage.

Prayer with our wife and kids is a great practice that will bring us closer to God and make for a stronger family. Being the “family spiritual leader” can seem overwhelming but breaking that concept into manageable habits (start with meals and bedtime) is a great start.

Taking the time to openly pray with one another will vocalize the hopes, concerns, needs and wants of each family member while connecting you closer to each other and God.

We’ve mentioned in the previous casts that the best way to grow is to get connected with a group of other fathers for encouragement and accountability. In this cast we talk about how to set up a Fathers group and what it can look like.

Becoming a better husband and father takes time, effort and occasionally being harassed by friends who knows what you want to do and what you’re capable of becoming. There are achievements (finally had a Date Night!) and setbacks (got way too angry at my kid) and having a community for support tremendously helps in the journey.
